Suspended travel 2019 – 2020, we felt that it would be in our best interest to work this winter. Put money away towards our retirement, so that we could retire completely. This coming back home to Canada and having to find jobs was getting old. Our plans were working out well as I was on a construction project making good money, Cindy had a job. We were putting monies away and paying off a little debt in the process.
Knee Replacement Surgery another reason to Suspend Travel
Cindy was on the list to have knee replacement surgery. Cindy’s knee surgery scheduled for the 21st of August. We moved out of our holiday trailer and into a basement suite in town. This would make it easier for Cindy’s recovery and besides winter was coming.
Cindy’s surgery went well and so did her recovery. Cindy was back at work after 3 weeks, admittingly this was too quick. I was having my own issues, pain in my right hip so I made an appointment with my surgeon. My surgeon had replaced my left hip in 2014, I was 55 at the time. September 27, I had x-rays, I was told that my right hip was bone on bone due to arthritis. I made my wishes known that I wanted surgery asap to replace my right hip.
Hip Replacement Surgery Yet one more reason to Suspend Travel
Total hip replacement surgery was scheduled in 2 months, thank god. Pain with this hip was intense and made it difficult to work. I was surprised how fast this hip had gone from good to pretty much useless and very painful.
As you can probably figure out that working over the winter for our retirement was a bust. It is now all about recovery and I’m glad to say that things are progressing well. After just 7 weeks I’m walking without assistance, I’ll admit that I do have a wobble. As it turns out we are grateful that we suspended travel in 2019 – 2020 as health issues would have made the travel very difficult.
Good Health is Important
I’m lucky as I do have short term disability through work which is a godsend. Otherwise, our savings would be going backward. We are still able to save some money but not what we planned. Just a quick note to all at any age, YOUR HEALTH IN THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN LIFE. Good health, without it the enjoyment of life’s pleasures is made more difficult.
Asia Travel in 2020 -2121
We may have suspended travel for this winter but watch for winter travel 2020 – 2021! We are already making plans to return to South East Asia. Where we are looking at returning to Thailand and new to us Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam.
